The Sovereign’s birthday is commemorated through the grand ceremony of Trooping the Colour, also known as the King’s Birthday Parade. As part of the preparations for King Charles’ first Trooping the Colour, the Princess of Wales and the Queen Consort have been bestowed ceremonial military roles. During the parade, King Charles will ride on horseback alongside Prince William. Accompanying them will be Catherine, who now holds the position of Colonel of the Irish Guards, and Camilla, who has taken over as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, replacing Prince Andrew. This spectacle will take place a few weeks after the King’s coronation on May 6.
This year, the King’s Birthday Parade, the traditional Trooping of the Colour, will showcase an impressive assembly of more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians. The event will unfold at Horse Guards Parade, followed by the royal party’s procession up The Mall, culminating in a grand finale at Buckingham Palace. From the palace balcony, they will witness a majestic fly-past by the Royal Air Force.
